Rebuilding Places Where Clinicians Can Thrive
Gratitude for Authentic, Purposeful Conversations
Thank you to everyone at CommonSpirit Health for the invitation to speak at today’s plenary session, “Rebuilding Places Where Clinicians Can Thrive.”
I was so pleased to be in conversation today with Dr Stephen Beeson, founder and CEO of Practicing Excellence, and Dr. Gary Greensweig of CommonSpirit Health.
We talked about the role of the system, team and individual.
We need to be intentional to promote safe and brave spaces of belonging, promote relational trust and community, and partner with our healthcare administrators and leaders. When we make self-care and colleague care a priority, we can give the best care to our patients.
Let’s commit to connect with our head and hearts, with affirmations of each other’s skills and attributes—but more importantly, affirming each other’s humanity with respect and kindness!
Thank you, Stephen Beeson, Gary Greensweig, Thomas McGinn, Ankita Sagar, Barbara Martin, Gregory Anderson, John Kniesche, and Brooke Burgess! @hellohumankindness
As 2022 continues unfolding and begins turning to a new season, how do you tend to self-care, community and resilience? I will post reflections on these themes and invite you to join in the conversation here or on Twitter or Instagram with your thoughts or what you are doing for self-care and care of others. My book explores such ideas too: Resilient Threads: Weaving Joy and Meaning into Well-Being.
Also see resources related to the Oath to Self-Care and Well-Being, a supplement to the Hippocratic Oath.
Being authentic, transparent and vulnerable with collogues, not only in our triumphs and successes, but in our failures, doubt and heartaches. That is the true bravery, and opens space for honesty, tending our own needs and the needs of others. This culture change will bring healing full circle.
