Wisdom defies age, gender, time, and status. I admire the wisdom of this elderly lady who survived the holocaust and thrived after that with all kind of memories. These words of wisdom can come not only from celebrities but from ordinary simple family oriented down to earth human beings like her also. Blessed must be her children and grandchildren. May she live for many more years.

There is a great difference between survive and thrive. While survive simply means to exist after disastrous circumstances, to thrive is to flourish and to progress despite or because of circumstances.

To survive is invariably a physical phenomenon and is based on three basic instincts of protection, preservation, and procreation. Animals and plants, all can survive.

To thrive, on the other hand, have added dimensions, those of intellectuality and spirituality. Wisdom comes from these two added dimensions which are unique qualities, exclusive to us, the humans. Wisdom not only means delivering or preaching the positive attitudes and attributes; it also means acting on them and putting them in our daily practices and routines.

Wisdom starts with taking care of yourselves, your body, mind, and soul, so that you can participate in care and share for others. Wisdom exudes from happy and pleasant demeanors and expressions like those of smile, empathy, and gratitude. Wisdom includes actions of compassion, concerns, help and support.

To answer the question on the quote, it is the attitudes of the mind and the simplicity of the soul that makes it possible to thrive rather than just survive. Everybody knows how to live for oneself, it is just a question of survival. However, it is those who live for others too, are the ones who help everyone, including themselves, to thrive not merely survive.

Adjust with circumstances, learn from events and instances, think and act positively, live life to the fullest and make every moment as the best moment of life thinking that it may be the last anyone may have.

When to care and share and to live and let live become part of our life’s mission, everyone thrives, not just survives. That is human wisdom and humanity in action.
