As I read this post on Thanksgiving by Mukta, I admire her resilience as a friend, colleague, teacher, and mentor, in trying to bring the best out of her addressees by inviting them to share their gratitude. The very last paragraph of her post touched me even more when she concluded by thanking us, her parents.

We indeed have been blessed this year, by completing more than eight decades of our lives and six decades of our marital bliss. What Mukta did not say however, are the efforts she made to bring our family together, virtually by zoom because of prevailing circumstances and made the event, a surprise thanksgiving treat for us, the parents. This included a kaleidoscope of our life in pictures and an interview with us probing ‘ever so gently the labyrinthine recesses of our minds’ as one of our close relations described it.

This was in addition to what she has been doing for past several years to make us happy and comfortable in every possible way while we have been living with her here in Chattanooga after our retirement.

It is time now for us to record our gratitude to Mukta as well as to our children and grandchildren.

I believe that children are the best ambassadors for parents, just as the pupils are for their masters. Parents invariably are remembered by the heritage they leave behind; the material assets, intellectual wisdom conveyed verbally or in writing, and the spiritual heritage through the upbringing of their children.

We have made every effort to share our knowledge and experiences with our children and grandchildren without adding any dogma, dictation, or expectations.

We are happy to say that they all have fully justified our efforts in their upbringing through education, attitudes, and behavior.

We therefore are grateful to the God almighty for giving us such wonderful children and grandchildren as well as their families.

We are grateful to our children and grandchildren, and their families for making us proud parents and grandparents.

Blessed are the parents who leave behind a heritage of such loving families. We indeed are blessed.

Thank you Mukta for your efforts to unite and serve the family. God bless you.

Happy thanksgiving to all.

I am thankful to have met Mukta on her daily walk and to receive her reflections every week. She knows my Chattanooga Hugs story and I am thrilled to share positive words myself especially with those who are getting free range organic eggs from our nephew John Striley for whom we are most thankful.
